Building a Budget-Friendly Garage Gym: Michael’s $5,000 6 Post Rack Setup

Meet Michael, a retired army veteran in his mid forties with a burning passion for powerlifting. He realized the necessity of maintaining his strength to keep up with his four energetic children.

Michael’s resourcefulness stemmed from his life experiences. Having served in the army and pursued education upon his departure, he channeled his disciplined mindset and problem-solving abilities into his current profession as a nurse. These traits served him well as he embarked on his gym-building endeavor.

6 Post Home Gym Rack

Determined to rekindle his lifting journey, Michael ingeniously devised a solution to a modest budget. He built his own home gym combining two “cheap” racks and he skillfully assembled a formidable 6 post rack that perfectly suits his requirements.

Choosing to modify rather than start from scratch is a testament to Michael’s wisdom. Financial prudence guide his decisions as he strategically enhances his gym over time. His latest upgrade showcased his knack for innovation and adaptability. He expertly disassembled and repurposed a plate-loaded low row lat pulldown, ingeniously transforming it into a weight stack selector.
