- Discover the Secrets Behind Hendrik’s $6,400 Home Gym Setup Built Over 5 Years
- How Hendrik Reduced Noise and Impact from Deadlifts in His Top Floor Home Gym

Meet Hendrik, a home gym freak from Belgium who has built his dream setup over the course of 5 years. Hendrik has kindly shared his experience and insights on home gym ideas to help you build your own dream home gym.
Inspiration Behind the Home Gym
Hendrik has always been fascinated by the idea of having his own gym.
The freedom to train whenever he wanted and the ability to customize his workout space were major motivators.
Hendrik started small, with just a few pieces of equipment in his apartment (Ironmaster dumbbells, bench and cable tower), and slowly added to his collection over time.
Once he had a larger space, he was able to expand his gym and make it his own. Today, he considers his gym complete.
Training in Hendrik’s Home Gym
Hendrik follows an Upper/Lower split and trains 5 times a week with some short ab sessions thrown in between.
The focus of his training is mainly hypertrophy, but he still includes big powerlifting movements for motivation. You can check out his video on YouTube where he shares his workout routine and how he trains in his home gym:
Challenges Faced – Deadlifting on the top floor
One of the biggest challenges Hendrik faced was lifting on the top floor of his house. He had to find a way to lessen the noise and impact from deadlifting.
Hendrik’s solution was to create a raised platform that allowed him to pull from soft drop blocks. He’s also shares below pictures of his DIY plate storage and seal row setup, both of which make the most of the limited space he has.
Tips for Building Your Own Home Gym
Hendrik’s advice for beginners is to only buy equipment that has multiple uses and equipment you can expand with attachments.
Often, people will recommend highly specific machines, but Hendrik suggests focusing on equipment that can be used for a variety of exercises. He also suggests planning ahead, and he used a 3D floor planner website to make sure everything would fit well in his space.
He also recommends waiting for sales and overall really try to get the best prices. (Seasonal sales, Black Friday, Stock Clearance…)
