How to Turn a Room into a Home Gym: Burt’s $3,700 Setup
- Burt turned his room extra space into a full $3,700 home gym, focusing on strength training after his daily Peloton+ cardio workout.
- Building a home gym is not just great for overall health but also a great hobby.

Meet Burt, a member of the Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians.
He has always been interested in being fit and healthy. He started his home fitness journey by purchasing a Peloton+ bike, but soon realized that he had more space in his room than he was using. That’s when he decided to create a full workout station.
In addition to his fitness pursuits, Burt Nevarez is also a card room dealer and a volunteer firefighter. When he’s not working on his fitness or dealing cards at the casino, he’s often volunteering his time and expertise to help his local community.
Workouts
Although Burt still uses his Peloton+ daily, he focuses on strength training after his cardio workout. Burt’s main workouts now include bench presses, squats, pull-ups, and overhead barbell presses.
Advice
He didn’t encounter any significant problems building his gym, but he did find that an impact driver helped him with some of the assembly. He put it all together himself and had no issues.
Burt believes that having a home gym room is not just great for overall health but also a great hobby. His advice to anyone who wants to start a home gym is to get a quality squat rack and then add more equipment as you go. Don’t buy everything at once space it out as you progress.
Future Plans
Currently, Burt’s gym is still under construction, and he estimates he’s about 50% done. He still has to hang a barbell rack and bench holder, among other things. But he’s excited about the progress and can’t wait to see his fully completed home gym.
